Located on Dundee Road on the Douglass Loop in the Highlands, the Deli has had a kind of identity crisis. My wife and I went to this place opening week a couple years (?) ago. It’s right in our neighborhood, and we were excited to have a nice coffee shop/restaurant/waterin’ hole nearby. Within those couple of years, they’ve acquired a liquor license (beer only), gotten rid of the espresso drinks (I imagine it’s hard to compete with the 800 Lb. Gorilla that is Heine Brothers), and are now refocusing their efforts once again. With the name “Deli”, people mostly thought of it as just a place with a few sandwiches, but owner Trent Pehlke is trying to get the word out about how much more this little gem of a restaurant really is. They have recently rebranded themselves as “Side Street Grill * Pizza * Pub”, which I think will bring more people in the door to experience this diverse menu. Read more »

Last week, I was wanting a really good burger. If you’ve been reading here long, that’s not a surprise to you. Nothing like a good cheeseburger to ease the pain. Jam and I debated on going to BBC, but I’d be too tempted to get one of their excellent beers. Beer and lunch are one sure way to get nothing done the rest of the day. Then, I realized we hadn’t reviewed North End Cafe. Away we went.
This is probably one of the best breakfasts in town. Their lunch ain’t half bad either. Come to think of it, it’s a good place for dinner and drinks as well. What can’t this place do?

Barbecue. Yeah, I know. Another one. If they’d stop popping up all over the place, I wouldn’t have to try them all. But, oh how boring eating out would be without barbecue. Keep reading to see how Smoketown USA holds up against the competition.

Valentino and I decided to try this popular nightlife spot out for lunch. Located in the “Irish” district of Baxter Ave., this is probably the first of the Irish pubs in the neighborhood (50 years!), and frankly one of the best fish sandwiches this side of Dublin (and it’s cellar).

Sweet teeth (tooths??) are a hard thing to control. Jam’s is almost uncontrollable, and mine tends to follow suit. The Homemade Ice Cream and Pie Kitchen has always been a weakness of mine, for good reason. I’ve never left there thinking, “That was the worst pie/ice cream/cake/cookie ever.” But really, are there any bad desserts out there?

Nothing’s better than dining alfresco in the early Spring, especially while enjoying a nice beverage in the all-too-familiar Irish setting on Baxter Avenue. Jam, his wife and I decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather and put their fish sandwich to the test. Read along if you will… Read more »

How can you open a restaurant, especially a pizzeria, and have such a buzz about the place so quickly? They’re even winning the “Best Pizza in Louisville” poll here on our website. Read on and find out why…

This place has won so many awards, that I probably don’t even have to tell you how good it is. But I will: It’s good.
Harry and I stopped in for lunch last week because I remembered how cheap their personal pizzas are ($2.99 for cheese, toppings are additional.) They also have great Panino Sandwiches that aren’t as inexpensive, but worth every cent.

Yup, another barbecue place reviewed on LouisvilleLunch. I can’t help it! There are a lot of good BBQ joints here in beautiful Louisville, Kentucky! Actually, I wouldn’t call Fire Fresh a “joint”…it’s too classy for that. They’re looking to franchise this small Louisville-based chain throughout the Eastern Seaboard. If there are any investors reading this…GO START ONE OR TWO…IT’S GOOD BBQ! Read more »
