Ernesto’s

I used to consider myself a Mexican food snob.  Having lived in Phoenix briefly in the late 90’s, I think I know Mexican food. Way back when, I grew up on Chi-Chi’s and the original Tumbleweed (before it became a chain and started to go wrong).  Before I started eating better and healthier, I would have Mexican food at least twice a week.  You name it, I ate it-at least once.

Shiraz

Editor’s Note: Everyone please put your hands together for our new LouisvilleLunch.com blogger, Molly! She answered the call for lunch review bloggers and after looking at her site, we knew she would fit right in here. Maybe even teach us a trick or two about writing. So, take it away, Molly! Welcome aboard!

I have to admit as my first review for LouisvilleLunch.com-I played it safe.  I have been to the Shiraz on Hurstbourne before, but this was a new adventure out to the location off English Station Road.  It is a little off the corporate beaten path, but people who work in the Blankenbaker cooridor are better off heading this way for lunch than Hurstbourne Parkway. More bad news for E. Main Street

Okay, first Market on Market and Primo, now this?

What a sad Press Release. Plus, what am I going to do without She-Devil?

Park Place and Browning’s Restaurant to Close This Weekend

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (October 11, 2008) – - Park Place Restaurant and Browning’s Restaurant and Brewery will officially close their doors this Saturday, Oct. 11 after dinner service.

“We have had many years of success,” said Susan Friedrich, general manager for both restaurants. “Although we have seen a steady increase in business, we feel the current state of our national economy will prove to prohibit the sustainability of our success. We are extremely grateful to all of our supporters and will miss them at our tables.”

Park Place Restaurant received rave reviews after opening in 2004. This fine dining restaurant established itself as one of the city’s top tables with farm fresh local ingredients and inventive dishes. Park Place has enjoyed many accolades including awards from AAA, Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast.

Browning’s Restaurant and Brewery is an upscale gastropub with a similar philosophy of using fresh local ingredients. The brewing facility, housed within the restaurant, produces several brews including She Devil IPA and Bourbon Barrel Stout.

Park Place on Main and Browning’s are located at 401 E. Main Street.

The Granville Inn

I had always heard that the Granville Inn had one of the best hamburgers in Louisville. I think I’ll be able to back up that claim now. This charming Old Louisville haunt is typically filled with regulars watching one of the many flavors of ESPN, drinking a beer and enjoying some really good pub food. Now, I think Jam and I are regulars here, or at least our ol’ buddy, Jessica makes us feel like we are. In early June, we came here 2 days in a row, which is a first for LouisvilleLunch.com. Read on to find out why… [...]

Wick’s Pizza

Wick’s is one of those places that almost doesn’t need a review. You’ve more than likely been there before, and either really love it or not so much. Me? I love it. My wife thinks they put too much cheese on their pizza. There is no such thing as too much cheese on a pizza in my humble opinion. That’s like saying there’s too much wet in this water. After the jump, read on about how delicious Wick’s Pizza is… [...]

Twig and Leaf

Sorry I’ve been so hard to find lately, folks. I’m vowing to get back to writing reviews again.

Jam, Valentino and I had some errands to run the other day, and just couldn’t decide where to eat lunch. So, I just kept driving south on Bardstown Road, and we just couldn’t put our finger on where to go. That’s when the awesome vintage neon sign caught our hungry eyes (what?).

J. Gumbo’s

Although this is technically a chain restaurant (and we don’t review chains here…we all know what they taste like), this place (formerly Gumbo-a-Go-Go) started here and it’s still kinda small, unlike the taste and portions of this cajun fast-casual restaurant.

Genny’s Diner & Pub

SUBTITLE: Mmmmm Good.

When I first moved to Louisville about 12-13 years ago, there was a commercial that ran on late-night cable that made a lasting impression on me. If you’re from around here, you definitely know what I’m talking about. If not, please allow me to reminisce about this commercial that is sooo bad it’s good: [...]
