Captain’s Quarters

This time of year everyone knows that Captain’s Quarters has the best out door eating area in the city, even better if you are a boater in need of the nosh. I think most people forget it can also be a nice place to have lunch during the week, if you have several hours to spare.

The only thing that moves fast on the Ohio are the boats.

Depending on how you like to spend your lunch hour(s) this could be good, or it could be very bad. Our party of 10 took 2 full hours from seating to eating, but it wasn’t just us, there were other smaller groups with the same issue. This wouldn’t be that big of a deal if you were having a working lunch or your boss doesn’t mind you taking several hours of his day to eat your lunch. We happened to be with our boss so it all worked out!

Luckily for me someone else in the party ordered several orders of the Banana Peppers, a Captain’s favorite-and a necessity have, in my opinion. They were cooked (actually, breaded and deep fried) to perfection. Normally, I avoid fried stuff, unless it is a pepper or a pickle. There were 5 slices to a plate and served with marinara sauce and a mustardy mayo concoction that is just heavenly. All this gooey goodness for $7.95.

For lunch I ordered the Greek Salad with virgin olive oil vinaigrette. It was very good and quite healthy so I can’t complain about it one bit. Several of the other members of our party ordered the Grilled Chicken Wrap and it must have been really good because not a one of them had a thing to say until they licked their plates clean. I am almost serious. The main comment from the Chicken Chicks were “that chipotle mayo was soooo good!” as anything with a mayonnaise base should be.

Our server had some issues with giving equal service to everyone at the table, I am not sure if they were not used to dealing with a larger party or just didn’t like the look of some of us. I can say that my glass was never empty.

Over all, it was a good experience and I do highly recommend it if you can spare the time.
